Here is where you will learn all about the weird disorders and diseases that affect cats, in good and bad ways.
Fading Kitten Syndrome(FKS).
This can be a fatal disease, however, with proper precausions taken, the kitten can survive. It usually will begin showing signs at about 2 weeks. What happens is when a litter of kittens are born, there may be one who is smaller than the others, however, it will not progress as fast as its siblings. In some cases it can, after a while the cat can make a full recovery and it will progress normally like the rest of its littermates. However, there are times where it can be fatal. In these cases, the kitten will show signs of sleeping more often, it wont want to play as much as its littermates, it will stop nursing, and afte a while, it will stop all progression, and will die. It is very important to get them to a veterinarian office if signs start to show.
Cat Compulsive Disorder.
This is a very different kind of disorder. If a cat or other type of animal is feeling stressed, anxious, frustrated, or having anxiety problems they may begin to show different signs. The most common is when they groom themselfs excessively or do other wacky stuff. They can chase their own tails, paw at their own faces, or pace around. There isn't much of a treatment for it, these animals may just need some company, however, the ones of exessive grooming are very hard to treat and fix because it could be more than just stress or anxiety.
Feline Hyperesthesia Syndrome (FHS) or Rolling Skin Syndrome.
This disorder is mostly around the tail area, however it isn't fatal. However, this may be suggesting that your pet needs a change of lifestyle. Most commonly, the tail will twitch, the pet will run around aimlessly for no reason, sensitive to the touch around the tail area, they may be annoyed with their tail and attack it, mostly on the tip, and some mood changes will also be seen. Sometimes, health issues may cause this, other times they simply need a change in their diet.
FUS (Feline Urological Syndrome).
This can be a very fatal disease if it is not treated right away. If you notice your cat has stopped using its litterbox and is still urinating frequently, this could be a bad sign. This causes the cat a lot of pain and if it isn't treated usually within 72 hours the cat could die. The cat cat form bladder and kidney stones, cystitis, and urinary blockage. It can be very confusing for a vet to diagnose this syndrome because of all of the different diagnosis conditions fall under it. If this is not treated right away, the blockage will become severe, and the cat will get uremic poisoning which is basically from the waste in its kidneys, it will get into the cats blood stream and can cause permanent damage to the cat, and may kill it. It is extremely imortant that they get treated immediately.
Deaf White Cats.
This is a really strange genetic disorder. It is usually most commonly found in cats with blue eyes and white fur. Its not as common in those cats who have colored fur, but the white cats have the bad luck. Those cats who have the white fur and blue eyes has a good chance of being deaf. Oddly enough, the odd-eyed cats (the cats that have one eye one color, and the other eye a different color) that have one blue eye and the other eye another color, the ear with the blue eye will generally be deaf. There is really no cure for this, its just a genetic disorder.
Cats with asthma is quite similar to a humans asthma. The most specific signs would be faint weezing after running around, they will get tired easily, and they will sometimes cough a lot in the attempt looking like trying to get a hair-ball out. If the asthma is not detected and diagnosed, and the cat has an asthma attack, it could potentially be fatal to the cat. If they are seen hunched over coughing, it would be a good idea to get them to a veterinarian right away! It would be better, however, to catch the signs early on.
